Motherwort |
|
Motherwort is a perennial herb growing to about five feet. Motherwort has dark green leaves, small red flowers, triangular brown fruit
crowned with a tuft of hair, and an unpleasant smell. The flowers form clusters about the upper leaves and are usually white or pink. The small flowers range from white to pink to red depending on the plant. Flowers and leaves are dried and used medicinally. Motherwort may be best known for its use in conditions affecting women. It is a useful relaxing tonic for aiding in menopausal changes. Motherwort helps regulate menstruation and as a relaxant and anti-depressant for premenstrual syndrome with delayed menses. Motherwort is an excellent tonic for the heart, strengthening without straining. It may be used in all heart conditions that are associated with anxiety and tension. Motherwort is especially useful for hot flashes associated with nervous tension as the primary trigger, accompanied by palpitations of the heart. Motherwort is also used to improve circulation, lower blood lipids, and reduce platelet aggregation. |
